Non-Radio – Riding Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads

Why a picture of a parked motorcycle on an empty rustic road?

K9ZW’s Turbo VRod Night Rod on a Rustic Road stop

Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads program has a motorcycle feature where you can earn a Certificate if you get yourself photographed at 25 of the roads.  You can earn the Motorcycle Rustic Roads Patch with 10 confirmed Rustic Roads.

The need to be included in the picture is waived if you are a solo rider.

So mine are lonely looking pictures of my Harley-Davidson Turbo VRod Night Rod or Harley-Davidson Pan America Special with that particular Rustic Road’s numbered sign, as I usually ride alone.

Cars and Bikes are in Wisconsin.

Backstory is these French cars were not shown at any shows in 2020 or 2021, and other than deliberately taking out on short drives we didn’t drive them either year. So while they are awesome cars, they didn’t make the cut..

Two of my motorcycles are also going to be sold:

Non-Radio – Turbo VRod in storage until Spring

A shot of the business part of the Trask Tubo kit

This was an very weird year for motorcycling.

Leaving home to make a great big loop with perhaps a gas station fill as the only intermediate destination really didn’t appeal.

With most potential destinations shut, restaurants largely doing only take out food, the virus swing in temperament making it “bad form” to drop in on friends rather than a welcome diversion, I found it hard to motivate to ride.

Non-Radio – Turbocharged VRod Harley-Davidson

Before the cosmetic & comfort stage.

This bike started as a brand new Harley-Davidson V-Rod “Night Rod” model.

Modifications started once the break-in miles were run off, and center on a Trask Turbo Kit.

There was a lot to do to install the kit and tune it to a good balance between torque/horsepower and road-ability.  Few creature comforts had to be dealt with and of course a few cosmetics.

RJ at Harbor Town Harley-Davidson did all the hard work and he really knows his stuff – link:  https://www.harbortownhd.com/

Horsepower dyno at the rear wheel is set about 160% of stocks 115-120 engine horsepower, and torque is up to a similar 165% of stock.

Pushing much further would have required some serious modifications to the rest of the drive train, including changing out the belt for chain-drive.

Everything we could easily remove was black power coated, a different seat was installed, and the factory bags added.  Right side foot pegs have been adjusted/lengthened to provide a bit more clearance from the hot drop pipes and the inter-cooler’s bulk.  A tank cover (bra) was added and usable mirrors.

Various screens, controls and other parts as powder coated.
