Non-Radio – Brewing Kombucha

I’ve had a couple emails asking if I do anything besides radio?  Over the next couple months I’ll trickle in a few posts in the “Non-Radio” category sharing some of my other passions.

The first one is Brewing Kombucha.  Briefly Kombucha is a biological fermentation of sweetened tea that ends up a non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated, effervescent sweet & sour drink.

Here is the bottling from a May 23rd 2020 batch – Root Beer, Dandelion & Burdock, and Elderberry:

Using 375ml flip-top bottles

The Root Beer was flavored with Homemade Syrup made from Sarsaparilla, Sassafras, Wintergreen, Vanilla and brown sugar.  The syrup added to sparkling water works well served on a hot sunny day.

Dandelion & Burdock is a traditional UK drink, which I am trying a direct flavoring by adding both to the bottles.

Elderberry is one I have made many times, and I use dried elderberries.  I’ve also used Elderberries with added Ginger or added Lemon.

In all three flavors I am adding flavor after the main fermentation, rather than adding to the ferment itself.

If you are interested in knowing more, let me know.
