Personally I am giving any digital magazine a miss, unless it is a print subscriber perk included in the cost for a print version.
Consider it a personal foible, as if I pay for a publication – Magazine or Book – I want the physical thing.
Then I am the sort to write notes in it, clip articles, cover a publication with post-its and then i share my copy.
A minor issue with WRO (World Radio Online) is that I had a paid for subscription that was converted to a duplicate print-issue of CQ magazine rather than refunded when WRO left the newpaper paper print format, and bluntly I was shortchanged in that process – what did I possible need a second copy of CQ and repeated efforts to merge the two subscriptions went nowhere, and WRO’s shortcomings become a sharper issue in a paid for format that will ten cost me an additional amount fo time to print a real copy of anything I want to work with in physical print.
Your milage may vary, of course.

I’m upset that an offer wasn’t made to convert my Paper Subscription to a Digital Subscription and extend it for the money they will save in printing & mailing.

See QST for October 2011, page 79 – Summary of Board Actions: Item # 25 Digital QST – Board approves staff to proceed with next phase of implementing an electronic version of QST.
No timetable / time frame indicated.
Thank you for the catch. Seems that like the flu, bad ideas do catch & spread around.
If the ARRL does the same fine job they did their once upon a time “go to website” and kill it with the same “sizzle without steak” QST may be heading down the same “improvement to lousy” path.
Looking at this sort of activity – the spoiling of establish brands with product substitutions – one wonders when the opening will be big enough for new contenders in the print format that do it right?

Here’s the missing small print for the CQ magazines (learned the hard way)… when you purchase the digital subscriptions, CQ will share your personally-identifying information (including at least your name and email address) with Zinio, a third-party company that specializes in “electronic magazines”. You will have to create an account with Zinio to then view your magazine. You can view the magazine in a PC’s web browser, but I’ve been unable to view it in my Android device’s web browser. To download the magazine (so you don’t have to read it in a browser), you must install Zinio’s application on your PC. To view it on an Android device, you must install Zinio’s app on your phone/tablet; Zinio’s app only works on Android 2.2 or greater. I assume the same is the case for the iPhone, but in an email exchange with Dottie Kehrweider at CQ, she mentioned that they’re having trouble with the rollout to iPhone.
Here’s some of the fun things that I found in Zinio’s Privacy Policy:
Zinio’s Privacy Statement makes it quite clear that they intend to associate the information that you provided with information from other sources and to share that information with other publishers, merchants, and other third parties in support of those third parties’ business models. Further, Zinio’s Privacy Policy specifies that, through its PC application and its device apps, it will track some of our behavior even when we’re offline.

Hi Steve – After enjoying my first ‘digital read’ of WRO the next edition changes to a paid subscription and being as a low cost “offer” made I decided to ‘give it a try’. MISTAKE!! Numerious ‘chalanges’ and hoops to jump through and although the ‘content’ enjoyable the delivery mode is far from acceptable :-( Learnt my lesson and until such time as can afford a subscription to the real thing (VERY expensive to have delivered in South Africa) I will stay with web content such as yours, Jeff (ke9v), Randy (k7age) and any / all others I find! 73 Nigel Rotherham ZS6RN

If I have to depend on a 3rd party program to read them and have them encumbered by DRM crud, then they are worthless. If they are not in an open format like PDF then there is no guarantee that they can be saved, or read in 10 years.
You guys made the poor choice in using a new startup company(zinio) to make your consumers dependent on which might not be around tomorrow, which may not work on newer computers in a few years, and which has limited usefulness.
I will never subscribe to a digital magazine that is DRM polluted and in a propitiatory format.
