Think Different - Apple Logo

I’ve been impressed with the interest in my previous post What in the World is Apple Thinking (or Not Thinking About)? - Apple Gores Itself….

Several well thought out comments have ended up part of this blog.  The thought put into them has been impressive.

Less impressive have been the mischief comments and out right rude comments.

Mischief Comments one can understand - the perception of humor is never equal among all of us, and what might have seemed funny might not come across well.

The Rude ones fall into groups:

  • you’re stupid/get a life comments posted by the least thinking readers
  • you missed reason xyz and therefore you’re stupid/get a life  comments which appear to be comments posted by the same unthinking readers who haven’t even taken time to read the article with its previous posts.
  • how dare you have an opinion not approved by Apple comments posted by Apple enthusiasts who seem to assume I am an Apple-hater and do not realize I’ve been a Mac user since 1984 (rather Orwellian that, eh?) and write this blog on a MacBook.

Needless to say these comments don’t see the light of day.  I am sure these authors can find time to post them on their own blogs!

There is most certainly room for all opinions - just remember the rude ones won’t get to share my bandwidth!  And we have to remember we are all “Armchair Quarterbacks” and do not have access to Apple Corps internal thinking, marketing plan and what their pre-posting test survey’s showed the likely response would be.

My concern that the down-side/up-side balance of politicizing the Apple product after spending millions bringing it center-mainstream will play out over time.

We can all watch and see.

Addition - note an additional article at Opinions, Tomfoolery and Foolishness - Responses to “Apple Gore’s Itself” Article

If you go to http://www.apple.com expecting to learn about Apple Computers or Apple’s iPod/iPhone/Software offerings you will be surprised to instead be greeted with a full page “Gore-athon” as a tribute to junk science somehow earning a Noble Peace Prize.

Here is a screen shot in case they just as quickly take down this folly …click here...

Apple Gores Itself

The backlash from the non-cult Apple users has been sharp and harsh - here are a couple postings found around the net:

In response to their “Gore-athon” website make-over:

Unless you can show Gore used a Mac in preparing propaganda, one has to question what insanity has lead to leading your website and marking efforts with a tribute to Junk Science?
Apple has never shirked social responsibility, including the responsibility to not pander to the simple minded and stupid.  Are you selling computers, communications & software or what?Hope Apple is well soon.and

I fired off a message warning them that they will alienate a large proportion of the genuine scientific community which uses Macs and that while as a Brit the US election could be said to be none of my business, they will alienate Republican Mac users and those who don’t swallow the entire eco-mentalist nonsense. Told them to get on with building the best computers in the world and keep their private political views private.  Bet there’s no response…

You can do a web search to find the hundreds, if not thousands of additional protest messages to Apple over their latest foray into Politics at the expense of their market share.

Is Apple being very clever or have they been political fools?

Will their taking up buzzwords offset the risk of endorsing junk science?

Time will tell.
